Product Details

This is a 2.38" long fossil horn coral specimen. Horn coral, or rugose coral, is an extinct type of solitary, cone-shaped or horn-shaped coral that lived on the seafloor. These ancient fossils are easily recognizable by their shape and by the internal, radiating ridges called septa, which formed the skeleton. Living atop the skeleton was a coral polyp with a mouth and tentacles.
