Ocean jasper, scientifically classified as a spherulitic or orbicular variety of chalcedony, is a highly distinct silicate rock (SiO_2) defined by its mesmerizing, multi-colored circular inclusions known as "orbs." These unique, eye-like structures are geologically formed through orbicularization, a process where silica and feldspar crystallize in radial, needle-like aggregates around a central microscopic nucleus within altered volcanic tuff or rhyolite. Boasting a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7 and a smooth, waxy-to-vitreous luster, this dense stone features a massive habit that displays a kaleidoscope of background colors—ranging from deep greens and earthy browns to vibrant pinks, yellows, and creams—often accompanied by pockets of sparkling, macrocrystalline quartz druzy.
